Client Stories

Hong Kong finance teams share how Smartappnetwork control deficiency logging shaped their year-end files and remediation plans.

Voices from recent registers

“They logged every access-rights gap we had ignored for two closes. The external auditor reused the register wording almost verbatim.”

— Mei L., finance controller, Wan Chai trading group

“The severity ratings felt strict at first, but it forced us to fix bank reconciliation sign-offs before they became a management letter point. I would have preferred one more week for owner interviews — we compressed the calendar ourselves.”

— Daniel K., CFO, Kowloon logistics subsidiary

“Walkthrough documentation for inventory cut-off finally matched what the warehouse actually does at month-end. Our group internal audit stopped asking the same clarifying questions.”

— Priya S., group reporting lead, Central family office

“Remediation follow-up closed six of eight prior deficiencies with evidence the audit committee could read in one sitting. The two re-opened items were fair — we had only partly fixed journal review.”

— Anthony W., financial controller, Island East manufacturer

Extended note: trading group, revenue cycle

A mid-sized electronics trader asked us to log control deficiencies ahead of a December year-end. Revenue cut-off and credit-note approvals were the priority after the prior auditor flagged late shipments.

Over four weeks we walked sales admin and warehouse supervisors through bill-of-lading timing, tested twenty invoices around the period end, and recorded three significant deficiencies: missing dual review on credit notes above HK$50,000, inconsistent use of shipment dates versus invoice dates, and an override path that allowed billing without a signed packing list.

Management assigned owners the same week. By the statutory fieldwork start, two items had fresh evidence; one remained open with a dated action plan attached to the register. The client’s comment: the register “removed the fog” that usually appeared in the first auditor meeting.
